There was a six page story in Newsweek this week about this book Oprah's pushing. The Secret. It's a so called " Self Help Book " that claims you can get what you want by wishing and thinking it into being. You want the light to be green as you approach it? Think about it. You're driving into The City and want to find a parking space close to your destination? Think about it.

You'll get the greenn light. You'll find the parking space. That's the concept.

It's Norman Vincent Peale on steroids.

It reminds me of a friend of mine who, like some stupid dog, chased back in the early 70s the Jose Silva Mind Control Band Wagon. And like a stupid dog, he caught up with it and had no idea what to do with it. He claimed he could control traffic lights. Never hit a red one. I'm sure he found a parking space every damn time he looked for one. If he were in some place like Cleveland.

I don't hear from him much these days. I'm thinking he's given up on Silva and is still searching for something ( In addition to parking spaces ). And maybe he's watching Oprah between 4 and 5 p.m. That hour, just before the cocktail hour...

When anything's possible.
